Knitting woes

Sigh! I started my sweater again last night for the FOURTH time! Here’s a (not so) quick run down of my sadness:

1. Was suspicious of the directions, decided to give them a chance and knit as written. After finishing the waist decreases and increases, and bust increases tried it on. It only just reached my waist!

2. Recalculated the size, decreases etc. using my newfound knowledge from the Knit to Flatter Craftsy course (highly recommend it!). Cast on with gusto, finish the ribbing, realise I didn’t use the smaller needle size for the ribbing.

3. Knit ribbing with correct needle size, do decreases and increases as recalculated and knit to underarm. Try it on. It fits but the waist is not as shapely as I hoped (looks a bit baggy). I compared it to a sweater I DO love and it looks straight at the waist compared to the lovely shaping in my good sweater. If I don’t love it now, I won’t love it later.

4. Re-recalculated waist shaping to be more extreme. Cast on again last night.

It’s worth knitting, as it’s going to match the sweater I made for my daughter. But, sigh…

First outing of my newly knitted hat!

My latest socks are progressing well. They’re goth socks self striping yarn in the wine em and dine em colourway. I am trying afterthought heels for the first time in order to maintain the stripes. I am going to try the crystal heel from Knitty. Anyone have any advice?

I always do my afterthought heels like a toe. So, ssk on the end of one needle, and k2tog on the other end. Do that on the other needle, and knit a round in between. Decrease until you’re happy, and kitchener your stitches :)

I was going to do that, as that’s what my cookie a book ‘sock innovation’ recommends. But I’ve heard that the resulting heel is too shallow and the sock slides down your foot, have you found that? That’s why I was planning on going with the crystal heel
